About Us

Thank you for your interest in Custom Fiberglass Pools!

pool at night

Creating your own backyard oasis is closer than you think with our staff at Custom Fiberglass Pools. We are extremely proud of our quality work and the unique craftsmanship that goes into every pool we install. We are pleased that you have expressed interest in our company, and welcome the opportunity to work with you.

We are a family owned and operated business. We have been involved in the fiberglass pool industry since the late 60's, and have been in our current location installing fiberglass pools for over 23 years. We are proud to have been recognized within our industry by many Design Awards for our projects, starting in 1988, and continuing through 2007. Our owner has been the focus of a particularly outstanding project in Los Altos, which culminated in an in-depth pictorial / article in a national trade magazine.

We take pride in the fact that we do all work in-house, with the exception of the concrete decking around the pool. However, the company that does our concrete surrounds has been with us for over 20 years, and is "almost" a part of our company. That way we have total control over each and every one of our projects. Our clients never have to deal with a "parade" of strangers in their backyards. Our owner and his trained crews are on each job from start to finish.

We are current members of the Better Business Bureau and have been the authorized installing dealer for Viking Pools in the following areas since 1990: Alameda County, Santa Clara County (San Jose city limits and north to Los Altos), and the southern portion of Contra Costa County (San Ramon and Danville).

FACTS ABOUT FIBERGLASS POOLS

Fiberglass pools are warmer. In most of our installing area we do not include a gas heater on our pool only projects. Fiberglass pools run about 10 - 15 degrees warmer than traditional gunite pools. Many skeptical previous concrete pool owners insist on a heater, only to call us a year later to see if we want to buy it, as it is still "new" from never being used! If there is a spa on the project, or our client lives in one of the cooler parts of our Micro-Climate area, or wishes to swim off-season, of course we will add a heater and gas line. The nature of the materials used in fiberglass pool construction allows the pool shell to maintain the water at a warmer lever, and the pool is surrounded by sand, which further insulates the shell.

Fiberglass pools are installed in about 15 working days. If you choose to install a concrete pool, the entire process takes place on site. The workers will be taking over your backyard for one and a half to three or four months.

Fiberglass pools are created off-site. For instance, we usually excavate on Tuesday, and on Wednesday the pool is delivered and craned into the prepared hole. Usually by Friday, we are ready for our first inspection by your City or County Building Department, and by the following Tuesday we are ready for decking and on to our next project, returning after the deck has been poured to install ceramic tile, clean the pool and set the equipment. We follow that by a start-up presentation to show you how to operate your pool.

When adding a spa, water features or other time consuming features, the project can be delayed somewhat, but we are proud of our continuity with these add-ons.

FIBERGLASS POOLS ARE EASIER TO MAINTAIN

Fiberglass pools require less maintenance than other pools. The smooth surface does not harbor algae and bacteria like porous concrete pools.

When adding chemicals to fiberglass pools you are treating only the water, not the walls, therefore you use less chemicals. You do not need to sweep down the walls, because the walls stay cleaner. Concrete pools, which have plaster surfaces need to be resurfaced every 8-12 years. Fiberglass pools never need to be resurfaced.

One of the fastest growing, most profitable segments of the pool renovation industry is resurfacing old concrete pools with FIBERGLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!

FIBERGLASS POOLS ARE STRONGER

Fiberglass pools are approximately 15 times stronger than concrete pools. They have the ability to flex with earth movement. Most of the Bay Area is sitting on expansive adobe soil, which is actually moving most of the time. It swells in the winter when saturated by rain, and shrinks in the summer when it is hot and deprived of irrigation. Our pools can flex with this soil type. We did not receive one call for a broken fiberglass pool after the 1989 Lorna Prieta earthquake. How many concrete pool builders can say that!!

OUR POOLS SHELL SUPPLIER

Viking Pools is one of the largest manufacturers of fiberglass pools in the United States. They have 4 manufacturing plants: corporate headquarters in Williams, CA, and plants in Texas, Florida and West Virginia.

Viking Pools was established in 1975, and since that time has proven to be on the cutting edge of technology, while remaining committed to customer service. Several years ago Viking developed a finish for their pools known as Cristite. This finish looks very similar to the rough, abrasive finish concrete pool builders use called Pebble Tech. However, just like the white and light blue finishes Viking makes, the Cristite finish is smooth and nonporous.

Viking Pools has an unbeatable warranty. Viking guarantees your fiberglass pool for as long as you live in your home. They do not have the "Act of God" clause. They firmly believe that their pools will withstand a major earthquake, and if it does not, it can be easily repaired by Viking.

Since Viking Pools is relatively close to the Bay Area geographically, the cost to bring the shells to us is reasonable. They are about one and one half hours away from most of our projects, cutting down on the cost compared to other fiberglass pool manufacturers' shipping charges.

Viking Pools, like our company, is a family owned and operated business.
